Artist Norval Morrisseau

Norval Morrisseau was born March 14th, 1932 (March 14, 1932 – December 4, 2007). Morrisseau was an Indigenous Canadian artist of Ojibwe ancestry from the Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation. 

Morrisseau's career spanned five decades, early on his grandfather taught him about Anishnaabe culture and spirituality, and his grandmother of Catholic religion, these teachings had influence over and are seen in his artistic works. 

Morrisseau's art guides many contemporary Indigenous artists across Canada, he is considered by many to be the grandfather of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada.
